 MOMA Scholarships in India for Minority Students

The Ministry of Minority Affairs (MOMA), Government of India is offering scholarships to the students who belong to the minorities (Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhist and Parsi communities) to enable them to pursue their higher studies.These scholarships are awarded on merit basis and can be used to pursue studies in India only. They are awarded through an agency designated by the state government/UT Administration for this purpose.

30% of these scholarships have been earmarked for girl students. In case sufficient number of eligible girl students are not available, then the balance earmarked scholarships may be awarded to eligible boy students.

These scholarships are categorized in the following two types:
1) Post Matric Scholarships: For Non-Technical courses
2) Merit cum Means Scholarship Scheme:For Technical Courses

1) Post Matric Scholarships:  The scholarship is to be awarded for studies in India in a government or private higher secondary school/college/university, including such residential institutes of the Government and eligible private institutes selected and notified in a transparent manner by the State Government/Union Territory Administration concerned. It will also cover technical and vocational courses in Industrial Training Institutes/ Industrial Training Centres affiliated with the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) of classes XI and XII level.

Who can apply: Scholarship will be awarded to the students who have secured not less than 50% marks or equivalent grade in the previous final examination (Class 10) and the annual income of whose parents/guardian from all sources does not exceed Rs. 2 lakhs.

The last for submission of online applications for fresh scholarship by students is September 30, 2013 while those who want to apply for renewal have to do it latest by December 10, 2013.

2) Merit cum Means Scholarship Scheme: These scholarships are meant to provide financial assistance to students to help them pursue undergraduate and/or post graduate level technical and professional courses from a recognized institution in India.

Who can apply:

• Students who get admission to a college to pursue technical/professional courses are eligible for these scholarships.

• However, such students should have not less than 50% marks at higher secondary/graduation level. Selection of these students will be done strictly on merit basis.

• A scholarship holder under this scheme will not avail any other scholarship/stipend for pursuing the course.

• The annual family income of the beneficiary/parent or guardian of the beneficiary should not exceed Rs.2.50 lakh per annum from all sources.

Amount: The selected students will be awarded scholarship amount of up to Rs. 30000 (hostelers) and Rs. 25000 (day scholars).

However full course fee will be reimbursed for some institutions which the various IITs, IIMs, NITs, IIITs, NIFTs, IISc Bangalore, and other government institutes and colleges.

How to apply: In order to apply online please visit the website through URL www.momascholarship.gov.in. A link to the site is also provided in the website of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, i.e. www.minorityaffairs.gov.in.

After opening the site please select the name of the scholarship scheme, you wish to apply. Then go to the Student Registration tab as appeared on the screen and register yourself for online application.
